If your business isn’t on Google, does it even exist? (Spoiler: Not really.) A Google Business Profile isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s essential for your company. If you’ve ever Googled a café or a restaurant or any other business to check their reviews or opening hours, you’ve used Google Business without even realising it. Now, imagine people trying to find your business but coming up empty. Not a great look, right?
What even is Google Business?
Not exactly a tech whiz? No worries. Let’s break it down. A Google Business Profile is like an online shopfront that pops up when people search for your business (or businesses like yours) on Google Search or Maps. It’s where potential customers can see your name, what you do, where you’re based, your contact details, opening hours, and—most importantly—what others think of you.
Why you can’t afford to ignore Google Business and why your business needs a Google Business profile NOW
In today’s digital world, if your business isn’t online, it might as well not exist. A Google Business Profile is essential for visibility, credibility, and customer trust. Here’s why you absolutely need one:
- You show up in searches: If people can’t find you online, you’re basically invisible. A profile helps you appear in Google Search and Maps, so customers can discover you easily.
- Instant credibility: Reviews, photos, and accurate details make you look professional and trustworthy.
- Free Marketing: It’s like having an ad on Google—without the price tag!
- Better Customer Engagement: Customers can message you, ask questions, and even book services directly from your profile.
- SEO Perks: A well-optimised profile boosts your ranking, meaning more eyes on your business.
And did we mention again that it is free?? Really no more excuses!

Still with us? Great—let’s get you set up!
Step 1: Head to Google Business Profile
The first essential starting point is to have a Google account. If you do not have one, again please do us a favour and create one. This can be a personal account. At the end you will control what shows on your Business page.
If you have a Google account, then go to Google Business Profile and sign in with your Google account.
Step 2: Add Your Business
Click “Manage now” and enter your business name. If it doesn’t appear in the dropdown, select “Add your business to Google” and type it in manually.

Step 3: Pick Your Category (Choose Wisely!)
Select a category that actually reflects what you do. “Virtual Assistant Service”? Perfect. “Wizard of Organisation”? Love the energy! But keep it straightforward—this helps Google connect you with the right audience.

Step 4: Location, Location, Location
- Got a physical office? Enter the address so people can find you on Google Maps.
- Work remotely? No worries! Select “No” and add your service areas instead.
Step 5: Contact Details (Make It Easy to Reach You)
Add your business phone number and website. Double-check that these match what’s on your website and social media—consistency is key!
Step 6: Verification Time
Google needs to make sure you’re legit. Verification can happen via several channels and can sometimes be instant or take a few days:
- Postcard (sent to your address)
- Phone or Email (if available)
- Instant Verification (if Google already has your details)
Follow the steps, and once verified, you’re golden.
Number 7: Make It Look Good
- Add a killer description: Tell people who you are, what you do, and why they should care.
- Upload quality photos: Your logo, work samples, and anything that makes your business look professional and approachable.
- Link your social media profiles
- Link to your online booking tools if this is a service you have set up already
- Edit your services or products to ensure they match and display what you offer.
- Finally set your hours: No one likes a mystery—be clear about when you’re available.
You will be able to check your profile strength and see what you may have missed. Make sure you completed your profile as much as possible.

Step 8: Enable Messaging & Reviews
- Then turn on customer messaging so potential clients can contact you directly.
- Encourage reviews! Happy clients? Ask them to leave a review—it boosts your credibility and Google ranking. The ASK REVIEW is super easy to use so there is no excuses!
Step 9: Keep It Fresh
Update your profile regularly—post updates, share offers, and make sure your info is always up to date. An outdated profile is worse than no profile at all!
Step 10: Link It Everywhere
- Add your Google Business Profile link to your website and social media bios.
- Include it in your email signature.
- Share it with clients and ask them to leave reviews.
